Your experiences with UT99 and Windows 7?

Postby lol on Sat Jul 17, 2010 1:21 pm

Just wanted to find out your experiences with' UT99 and Windows 7

Windows 7 Pro
PC I built with upgraded ASUS M2N-E SLI mobo
AMD Athlon 64x2 4600+ cpu
4 GB Corsair ram
Two WD 320 GB SATA HDs running RAID Array 1 (mirrored)
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT vid card

UT99 was working well in Windows XP Pro running in Windows 98 compatibility mode

1. Installed Win 7 pro on new HDs then copied the UT folder over (I didn't want to go through all the bonus pack etc updates again)
2. Freezing, jerky, etc video issues
3. Checked Device Mgr and Win 7 already installed the latest video card drivers.
4. Tried Windows XP compatibility mode but realized that UT99 didn't work well in previous OS Windows XP until I started running it in Windows 98 compatibility mode

Checked run UT as admin and now UT seems to be normal again, no freezing etc. (Windows compatibility mode unchecked)

How is your UT99 set up in Windows 7?

Spoke too soon, I'm still having problems.

Going to try installing UT then move the folders from the old UT into new one.

Btw this is WiN0

What renderer are you using? If you are using D3D try OpenGL instead, and vice versa. Either way make sure you have the newest UT drivers for both D3D9 and UTGLR from here:

Thanks Sull, I'll try those drivers.

I decided to install UT from the CD and update it to 436 and the bonus packs then move the cache, maps, system folders in and it seems much smoother. UT did pick D3D for my card but I'll try those drivers to try to improve the video quality

This may be of interest to you.

I had the sound issue described in the above thread, as did Gman and Moxley. You may have the dual/quad core problem as well.

Otherwise, UT99 works great with Windows 7. Unfortunately, just moving everything from your 32 bit Windows install does not work well. You're doing the right thing by installing from scratch. What MSull said about changing the video driver is spot on too. Good luck! 8)

Thanks x and Alexei, I'll try changing netspeed and I'm using the D3D9 drivers which are working pretty good but the colors are still a bit splotchy even if I have 32 bit color selected. Wonder if it's because this is 64 bit Windows 7.

X, I downloaded the dual core patch but I'm not sure what it is because the unzipped file name is UnrealTournament.exe. Am I supposed to swap it in or run it?

If I run it I get an error I need Windows.dll file

you can always change netspeed in game. The command is

Code: Select all
netspeed 20000

(press tab and type that in)

Replace the unrealtournament.exe in your UnrealTournament/System/ folder with the one from the dual core patch. (I thought that there was no need for that anymore though with newer CPU drivers...)

Alternately you could ctrl+alt+del and in task manager set the CPU affinity for the UT process to 1.
